Larry Dooley

Giving something "a bit of/some Larry Dooley" in Australian slang is to exert extra effort. The term is often used by Australian cricket commentator Richie Benaud when describing an aggressive batsman.[1]

After hitting a six to reach his century in the 2006 Boxing Day Test Match, Andrew Symonds said in a press conference:

I was thinking 'should I do this in ones or if he sits one up there should I give it some Larry Dooley? I decided that if he slipped one up there I'd give it some Larry Dooley.[2]
